Hello and welcome! We are Adam and Apryl Mawby. We own and operate Gardwellers Farm & Ranch, with our four children, just outside of the Turtle Mountains in North Central North Dakota. We farm because we are passionate about the land, animals, the natural world, and great food! We want to share that with our community.
Our Journey to Our "Forever Farm" Our farming journey together began in 2020 when we married and combined our lives and agricultural dreams, including all of our livestock. Over the course of the next 3 years we went through several moves with our growing family and business dreams, while attempting to find our "Forever Farm". With each move (4 of them) we downsized and tightened our focus on what really means the most to us for our family and our agricultural presence on the landscape. We finally found it here, on 45 acres in Souris, North Dakota, and started establishing permanent roots for our family in 2022.
Gardendwellers Farm was originally established in 2001 by Adam's parent's, Holly and Barry Mawby, as a fresh culinary herb farm in Churches Ferry, then later outside of Esmond North Dakota. Adam helped out a lot on the herb farm, but found his own agricultural passion raising Katahdin sheep and Red Angus cattle in 2014. In 2019 Adam started Gardendwellers Ranch and began selling the lamb meat and added Freedom Ranger broiler chickens to the business.
In 2021, we tragically lost Adam's mother, Holly, to cancer. She was much too young and bright of a spirit to leave this world. We continue on with what Holly had started so many years ago and hope that she would be proud of what we are trying to create here. In 2022 we planted a clump of Royal Frost Birch trees in her honor, right along the garden's edge, overlooking the scenic seasonal creek. She is always in our thoughts.
Where We're Going We took on the new name, Gardendwellers Farm & Ranch, in 2021 and have adapted business models to better fit our lives. Currently we raise and market direct-to-consumer lamb, chicken, freeze dried culinary herbs and herbal teas, natural herbal milk soaps and skin care products. We maintain a Retail Food License to sell our USDA inspected and processed lamb cuts and NDDA approved home processed chickens. Currently our herb business is operating under North Dakota's Cottage Food Law, but we are working to establish a commercial kitchen on the farm. That would enable us to ship our herbs anywhere in the US. We do ship our skin care products and plan to wholesale them around North Dakota. We hope to be welcoming guests for Agritourism events in 2026 and getting back to Farm to Table dinners in the near future.
